Police have confirmed that the body of a missing dental student from Columbia University has been found in the Hudson River.

Jiwon Lee, 29, had been missing since April 1st. After a long search, police confirmed that her body had been pulled out of the river after a passer-by spotted something suspect in the water and alerted officers. The talented student was just weeks away from graduating when she went missing; the last time she was seen, she was leaving her apartment in Manhattan at around 8.30 pm on the 1st April.

Investigations showed that the 29 year old had previously tried to take her own life by overdosing on pills and police stated that a suicide letter addressed to her family was found at the apartment. In the letter, a spokesman for the NYPD claimed that she had written that it was not anyone’s fault, but she had simply given up on life and did not want to live anymore.

One of the last calls Miss Lee made was to her brother and he said that it was very out of character for her to disappear without telling anyone. Phone records also showed that she made one other call that night to a number in Sacramento, which has sine been disconnected.

Fellow students posted leaflets and signs informing people that Jiwon had gone missing and appealing for information and described her as a talented, friendly and hard-working student who had already achieved great success. Jiwon had been president of the American Student Dental Association and always achieved high marks.
