A Blackpool dentist is celebrating after achieving one of dentistry’s highest honours; Robert Bland, has been accepted as a Fellow of the Faculty of General Dental Practice of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Robert from Wrea Green Dental Practice graduated from Liverpool University in 1985 and spent four years working in and around Manchester before opening a practice in Fleetwood. From his early days, Robert had big ambitions and within ten years, he had established a chain of practices in the Blackpool area, which were then acquired by a dental company.

He bought a practice in Warrington, but had always dreamed of running a village practice and when the surgery in his village, Wrea Green, came up for sale two years ago, he jumped at the chance to buy it.

Robert gained the diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in England in 2008 and has now been awarded Fellowship, the highest award given out by the Faculty of General Dental Practice.

Robert has a number of commitments outside of running the village practice; he is a part-time examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in London and a member of the panel for the General Dental Council’s Dental Complaints Service; he also works as an appraiser for North Lancashire PCT.

Dr Bland has also completed a Master’s degree in Dental Implantology at Sheffield University.

Robert said that it was a great honour to receive the Fellowship and he is looking forward to celebrating the achievement.
