A dentist from Blackburn has downed his drill after working at the same practice for 33 years.

Dr Karl Tuzio has retired after spending three decades treating patients at Ewood House Dental Surgery. Dr Tuzio started working at the practice after graduating from university in 1988 and said that he is sad to be saying a final farewell to patients and colleagues.

Dr Tuzio, 57, has treated generations of the same families and said that it was a privilege to be a family dentist in the area. Patients he saw when they were children now bring their kids to see him and that is his proudest achievement.

Dr Tuzio graduated from the University of Manchester in 1988 and started working at Ewood House Dental Surgery as a vocational trainee. He trained under the supervision of the owner, Stuart Marsden and then became an associate.

In 1995, he bought part of the business before selling it back in 2016. Karl has been an integral part of a team that has been together for a long time. Dental nurses, Michelle Williams and Linzi Tiffin, joined shortly after him and have remained at the practice.

Speaking about his career, Dr Tuzio said that it was his mission to build trust with patients, as well as to excel clinically. Dentists today can be “nomadic,” he explained, which makes it difficult to build strong relationships. Being at the same practice for over 30 years enabled Karl to strengthen ties with patients and to create an environment that felt comfortable and familiar.

The team said that Karl will be sorely missed.
