Bitterne Dental Practice Forced To Close As Rain Batters Hampshire

Sample News Big

A dental practice in Bitterne was forced to close at the end of last week, as torrential rain battered Hampshire.

Dentist Noel Davies was forced to contact patients and cancel appointments at short notice after he was informed that Gentle Dental, which is located on Somerset Avenue, had flooded.

Two feet of water had gathered outside the building and inside, waters were more than an inch deep. In Southampton, 15mm of rain fell in a short period of time, as storms swept in from the coast and caused localised flooding.

Noel said that he was shocked when he received the phone call and immediately went to the surgery and started work on clearing the water. He managed to dredge most of the water, but said that it was very dirty and smelly.

Noel worked tirelessly over the weekend to clean the surgery thoroughly to meet health and safety standards in order to open on Monday morning.

This is not the first time Noel has had to deal with flood waters, as the drains become blocked on a regular basis following heavy outbursts of rain. He said that the situation was frustrating but the location of the practice increased the flood risk, as it lies at a low point near three hills.
