A dental practice in Beverley,East Yorkshire, is inviting patients to attend free oral cancer screening sessions this month as part of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month.

Perfect 32 will be hosting free oral cancer screening between Monday 12th and Friday 16th November and appointments will be available from 8.30am.

Dentists will be using the latest Velscope instrument to check for early warning signs of the disease, which affects more than 5,000 people in the UK every year.

The practice will also be handing out information packs about oral cancer, which includes articles and advice about the causes and risk factors of oral cancer, the symptoms and signs to look out for and the treatment options.

Mouth Cancer Awareness Month will run throughout the month of November; it is run by the British Dental Health Foundation and will be supported by practices across the UK in a bid to save thousands of lives.

Mouth cancer has poor survival rates because most cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage when there is a possibility that cancer has spread to other parts of the body. The aim of the campaign is to encourage patients to see their dentist for a routine dental check on a regular basis and to look out for early warning signs and symptoms of mouth cancer, which include red and white patches in the mouth, lumps or swelling in the mouth or throat and ulcers that take a long time to heal.

Patients who wish to make an appointment are advised to contact the surgery on 01482 863 667.
