The British Endodontic Society (BES) are awarding Dr Chris Maher, a trainee Endodontist at East Yorkshire Dental Studios with the General Dental Practitioner Prize for 2013. Dr Maher will receive the award at the British Endodontic Society’s Regional Meeting in November 2013.

Evidencing his clinical skills for complex root canal treatments in ten case studies, Dr Maher contributes to developing the Endodontic profession. Dr Maher is currently completing a Masters degree in Endodontics.

As a result of his achievement, the East Yorkshire Dental Studio where Dr Maher practices will receive a £1,000 voucher contributed by Sybron Endo suppliers. Innovation in Endodontics drives development of new technologies, materials, techniques and treatments.

Endodontists strive to preserve existing teeth by restoring teeth damaged through trauma or disease. Root canal treatment aims to remove infection from the inner dental pulp, sealing and restoring the tooth with a dental crown to prevent spread of infection and tooth loss.

In certain cases, one or more teeth may need to be extracted and replaced with an artificial tooth restoration such as a crown, bridge or denture. Dental implants may be inserted to replace missing tooth roots and support artificial teeth replacements.
