Berwick dental practice set for relocation

A dental practice in Berwick could be on the move.

The owners of Tweedmouth Dental Clinic have applied for permission to relocate from Shielfield Terrace to 92 Marygate. The proposal has been backed by planning officers and councillors are set to discuss the application in further detail at a meeting on Thursday 23rd February.

If the plans get the green light, the practice will expand. Moving to new premises will enable the team to double its capacity, providing better access to dental services for residents.

In a message to patients, which was posted on the practice website, the team explained the reason behind the relocation, confirming that the current premises were too small. The practice has outgrown the building in Shielfield Terrace, which only has two surgeries. Moving would boost capacity, creating two additional surgeries. The project would enable the team to expand, with plans to recruit new dentists and provide treatment for more NHS patients.

As well as relocating to larger premises, the practice owner is hoping to modernise the clinic with new equipment and cutting-edge technology.

There is currently a shortage of NHS dental places in Berwick and the situation has got worse recently due to the closure of mydentist in Castlegate in September 2022 and the Burgess and Hyder Dental Group on January 31st 2023.
