A spokesperson for Silvio Berlusconi has said that he is feeling better after he had two teeth and his nose broken in an attack.

Paolo Bonaiuti said that the Italian prime minister, 73, was recovering well after being hit in the face with a souvenir statuette in Milan.

Berlusconi had been greeting crowds when he was attacked and has had a hard time keeping away from work despite doctor’s orders that he needs to rest for at least 10 days.

A number of his national and global appointments have had to be postponed while he recovers.

Forty-two-year old Massimo Tartaglia, who has a history of mental illness, has been detained in a psychiatric ward in San Vittorre prison for attacking the prime minister. He has since apologised.
