BDA calling for explanations over registration fees

The British Dental Association has called for clarity over CQC registration fees.

In a letter to the Care Quality Commission, the BDA has argued that dentists have been left in the dark over fees, despite the fact that the deadline for registration is in three weeks’ time. The letter also calls for changes to the fee system to make it fairer for small practices; a consultation suggested a fee of £1500 for small practices, a figure which the BDA argued was far too high and would impinge on the practice’s funds for patient care.

Dentists are also angry that they have been asked to go through the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check again, due to the fact that primary care trusts have not sent the relevant information to the CQC.

Dr Susie Sanderson, chair of the BDA executive board, said that it was shocking and completely unacceptable that dentists were still in the dark about CQC registration fees, with the deadline for registration looming. Dr Sanderson urged the CQC to make an announcement as soon as possible to allow dentists and practice managers to budget for the next financial year.

It is with dismay that I have today received an email from the CQC stating that the fees payable to them by a single dental practice is £800 payable annually but with no provision for payment by instalments. Also why is it necessary to provide a further CRB check less than three months old when a CRB is already in place. We have to fight this quango
