Barnsley Schoolchildren All Smiles After a Visit From the Dentist

Sample News Big

A group of schoolchildren in Barnsley had plenty to smile about after a visit from the dentist this week.

Children from Littleworth Grange Primary School were treated to a visit from the team at mydentist in Peel Street, who taught them how to brush their teeth properly, how to make healthy food choices and how to prepare for a visit to the dental clinic.

During the day, the dental team spent time talking to the children about why it’s important to clean their teeth and showed them how to use their toothbrush properly. The children took part in interactive and fun activities and games and the team used props to enable the children to hone their brushing skills and learn more about the anatomy of the mouth.

Recent figures show that rates of decay in Barnsley are higher than the national average and the average for Yorkshire and the Humber. Educational initiatives, such as visits from local dentists, can help to encourage children to develop positive habits, which will hopefully reduce rates of decay in the future.

The vast majority of cases of tooth decay are preventable; however, thousands of children end up in hospital requiring treatment under general anaesthetic every year in the UK.
