Ban for dental nurse who sold story of affair

A dental nurse, who had an affair with her boss and then sold her story, has been suspended by the General Dental Council.

Paula Jackson sold her story to Closer magazine following a nine year affair with her boss, dentist Tariq Drabu. Mrs Jackson was working at the Langley Dental Practice near Rochdale at the time but has since moved to Horwich Dental Care Centre, near Bolton.

Mr Drabu fired Mrs Jackson after his wife found out about the affair; Jackson subsequently took him to an employment tribunal and he was given a four month ban after the GDC found him guilty of inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour.

Mrs Jackson provided a detailed account of her affair with Mr Drabu in the weekly magazine and claimed the pair had sex with her boss in various different locations around the practice. The GDC panel suggested that her lewd account had brought the profession into disrepute and condemned her behaviour. At the hearing in London, chairman of the panel, Helen Potts said the story ‘undermined public confidence in the profession’; Mrs Jackson was also charged with inappropriate behaviour and asking an unnamed patient sexually explicit questions.

Helen Potts said the panel had taken into account Mrs Jackson’s regret over her behaviour and believed that it was highly unlikely that she would repeat her actions; however, the panel agreed that she must be reprimanded for the three charges brought against her. Mrs Jackson will now serve a two month ban.
