A dentist from Avon Lake, Ohio, has been sentenced to three years in jail after he was found guilty of conspiring to distribute addictive painkillers.

Michael Wai Jing Kwong was sentenced along with dental assistant, Jakob Kelly and Jason Thompson. Kwong worked at several practices in the Cleveland area. Between 2008 and 2010, the three men worked together to distribute oxycodone and hydrocone, previously known as Percocet and Vicodin, according to prosecutors.

According to the plea agreement, Kwong wrote out prescriptions for the painkillers for fictitious people and patients he had not seen; he also wrote several prescriptions without patients’ knowledge. Kwong distributed the pills after-hours or gave them to Kelly and Thompson to distribute.
