Australian Dentists Issue Warning To Young People

Sample News Big

Australian dentists have created an oral health guide for young people warning them of the dangers of certain activities, including taking drugs, smoking and drinking. The guide also contains advice about piercings and oral sex.

The Australian Dental Association has produced a Young Person’s Oral Survival Guide as part of dental health week. The guide contains information about the implications of smoking, drinking alcohol, having oral sex and investing in oral piercings. They hope to inform young people about the risks of putting certain things in their mouths.

Dr Peter Alldritt, from the Australian Dental Association, said that it is important for young people to have the knowledge so that they understand the implications of partaking in particular activities. He advised young people to do things in moderation and to act responsibly in order to avoid accidents and injuries and prevent potentially very serious health problems.

He also went on to say that health problems, notably cancer and oral cancer, are not top of the list of the things young people think about. Although this is understandable, they should be made aware of the risks which are associated with their behaviour.

Many young people are unaware that having oral sex, binge drinking and smoking all increase the risk of oral cancer, a form of cancer, which has become more prevalent among young people over the course of the last decade.

Dr Alldritt said that the guide is designed to show young people how to live responsibly, while still having lots of fun.
