A dentist from Arbroath is beaming after officially opening a dedicated Childsmile room.

Ian Robertson, owner of Ian Robertson Dental Care, has overseen extensive renovation work at the practice over the last few months. The surgery now boasts a Childsmile room, which is designed to help children feel relaxed and enjoy their time at the practice. The room has been decorated according to an ‘under the sea’ theme and the team is hoping that it will help children to feel calm.

Donna Kirk, principal coordinator at NHS Tayside’s oral health improvement team, officially opened the room and she was very impressed with the new addition to the practice. Many children feel apprehensive when it comes to going to the dentist and the Childsmile room is an ideal setting to make them feel more relaxed and distract their attention. It’s very important to provide children with positive experiences, as this helps to prevent fear and anxiety further down the line.

Mr Robertson said he was very pleased with how the room has turned out and is looking forward to welcoming children to the new and improved surgery. The practice aims to promote good oral health and preventative measures for patients of all ages. He hopes that children will now look forward to coming to the dentist.
