Anstey dental practice owner submits expansion plans

The owner of a dental practice in Anstey, Leicestershire, has submitted plans to extend the surgery to boost capacity.

Mr Shiekh, of Nationwide Healthcare Providers, has applied to Charnwood Borough Council to extend Anstey Family Dental Centre. The existing practice is located within a row of units in the heart of the village. The neighbouring premises are now available following the relocation of the post office counter.

The Post Office closed last year and a new counter opened shortly after in the local Londis store. The unit on Bradgate Road is now empty. Nationwide Healthcare Providers want to expand the practice, using the space available next door to create new treatment rooms and increase capacity.

In a statement accompanying the application, Nationwide Healthcare Providers suggested that adding dental capacity in the area was crucial due to national dentist shortages and plans to develop new housing on the land that surrounds the village.

Councillors have warned that building more homes in the area could be problematic due to existing pressures on local services. Currently, there are plans in the pipeline to create more than 1,000 new homes but the future of the project is uncertain due to objections from some councillors and local residents.
