Anglesey dental practice to stop NHS services

Sample News Big

A dental practice in Anglesey will stop providing NHS services in April.

Cybi Dental Practice in Holyhead will not offer NHS treatment from April 18th. The practice team is hoping to complete as many open courses of treatment as possible by the middle of April. However, some patients may need to be referred to alternative providers if they are still undergoing treatment when NHS services cease. Patients who are in the middle of treatment will be allocated a different practice.

Interim chief executive of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Gill Harris, confirmed the news and issued an apology to patients who will be affected. The practice will be in touch with patients to outline what is happening and provide advice for those who wish to look for a new practice. The practice will not be closing, but it will only be providing private dental services.

The news has caused anxiety among residents, as well as local MS, Sam Rowlands. Mr Rowlands said that it was a major blow to lose yet another NHS dental practice in North Wales following the closure of a practice in Llangefni and the loss of NHS dental services at Marquess Dental Practice in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll from March 2023. Mr Rowlands called for the Welsh Government to take immediate action to boost NHS capacity because patients on the island are finding it increasingly difficult to find an NHS dentist.

Despite the negative headlines, there has been some positive news in the region with the opening of a new dental practice and plans to create a dental academy in Bangor.
