The extremely hard working dentist, Dr Anand Kamath, took his own life after threats from health chiefs regarding his record keeping.

Dr Kamath, 42, was the only NHS dentist who practiced in his area of Rothwell, West Yorkshire. He took on as many patients as he could with a total list comprising of 10,000 patients, which is 4 times as long as the average dental practice.

The father of three became subject to an inquest, carried out by the NHS, following reports of poor recording keeping. Dr Kamath was treating up to 50 patients per day, rarely taking any lunch breaks or holidays. His widow, Dr Rajni Prasad, stated that her husband was a servant for the NHS and that he was bullied and harassed by the NHS.

Health officials threatened further action and sent a warning letter to Dr Kamath, which said he could be reported to the General Dental Council for his poor handling of paper work.

Dr Prasad told reporters how her husband was stressed, wasn’t eating properly and how they both felt very vulnerable as neither of them received any support from the NHS. She found her husband dead in their Pudsey home, shortly after the warning letter was delivered. Dr Prasad also told the press that she had to tell her children that their father fell as she didn’t want them knowing the real truth.

Coroner David Hinchliff verified the cause of death as suicide by means of exerted pressure, he said that a ‘good man was pushed over the edge’.

The British Dental Association has finally called the NHS to hold an inquiry over his death. Dr Prasad finally said that she firmly believes he was bullied to death.
