The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry has teamed up with the text4baby scheme to offer oral advice to mothers of young children. The text4baby programme is run by the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB) and sends out texts to mothers who partake in the programme, providing advice which is estimated for their specific due date or age of their children.

The text4baby scheme provides information and tips for new mothers about immunisation, nutrition, safe sleep and the prevention of birth defects. The HMHB can also connect new mothers with organisations in their area, such as prenatal classes day care centres.

Top paediatric dentistry experts from the AAPD will work together to come up with a selection of tips and a collection of information to add to the texts already being sent by the HMHB through text4baby. New mothers signing up to the scheme can now also expect information and advice on teething, nutrition for a healthy mouth and other tips about oral care.

“We believe the power of partnership and community can make an incredible difference in women’s and children’s lives,” said Judy Meehan, Chief Executive Officer of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition. “Text4baby brings HMHB’s mission to life and with the help of our partners, we believe we can be a strong catalyst for change.”

“The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is proud to partner with text4baby on such a mission-critical program,” stated AAPD CEO Dr. John S. Rutkauskas. “As the leader in representing the oral health interests of children, our members serve as primary care providers for millions of infants, children, adolescents and patients with special health care needs, and the nature of the text4baby messages are in direct alignment with the vision of AAPD, particularly with our ‘Get it Done in Year One’ campaign.”
