A dental nurse from Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool has won a trip of a lifetime to Africa; Lyndsay McGrath won the trip courtesy of dental charity Bridge2Aid and will now fly out to Tanzania to help people in need.

Bridge2Aid runs the annual competition for a dental professional to join them on a charity trip to Tanzania as part of the Dental Volunteer Programme and the competition was judged at the Dentistry Show on Saturday.

Lyndsay McGrath, a dental nurse at Alder Hey Hospital, was the lucky winner and said that she was still in shock after never thinking “in a million years” that she would be the winner. Lindsay was one of more than 20 entries and she said that to win the competition was really exciting.

She said that she was “gobsmacked” when she got the phone call informing her that she was the lucky winner and said that to have the opportunity to travel out to Tanzania and help out with the Bridge2Aid work was amazing; she added that she has wanted to do something similar for a number of years and never thought that she would get the chance.

The Dental Volunteer Programme was set up to enable dental professionals to use their skills to help people living in very poor conditions in Tanzania and pass on their knowledge and training to dental professionals working out there. Lindsay will embark upon her charity mission later this year.
