ADA lobbies congress with adverts

The American Dental Association has been lobbying congress to increase Medicaid reimbursements with the help of a new advertising campaign.

The ‘Inside the Beltway’ campaign, which has been running between 16 and 22 December 2009, was launched by the association (ADA) to encourage congress to pay more attention to dentistry when considering nationwide health reform.

Funded by the American Dental Political Action Committee, the campaign highlights the facts that millions of low-income Americans don’t have access to a dentist.

ADA is also warning that oral diseases, if left untreated, can lead to other diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular difficulties, which can be fatal.

“Congress: It’s not too late to increase funding for dental Medicaid. Because our friends and neighbors most in need can’t afford to wait,” the ad reads.

An ADA statement said that proper congressional funding for programs, such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, could improve the oral health of most of the American population.

Claiming that it was not attempting to sway public opinion toward any political party, the ADA said that congress needed to become more aware about oral health issues.
