A Patient Dies After Wisdom Tooth Surgery

The cause of death of a man from San Diego after having wisdom tooth surgery last year was caused by sedatives. During the autopsy, the report stated that the man had six different sedation medications in his body at the time of death.

Whilst the oral surgery was underway the patient started coughing and was then administered a dose of propofol. This caused this oxygen levels to drop drastically, leading him to be sent to hospital where he later passed away.

The man’s family is planning to take legal action but will first wait for a report from the Californian dental board before proceeding. The drug propofol has hit the headlines in the past, making the news after the unexpected death of Michael Jackson.
