A Look at the Year since Dental Nurse Registration

Sample News Big
It has been a year since dental patients were blessed with the safe knowledge that when they visit their dentist they are being treated by General Dental Council registered dentists and technicians.
A year ago it was compulsory for those involved in the treatment of dentistry to be GDC registered, and as a result of this legislation over 44,000 dental nurses and 7,500 dental technicians have signed up to the register.
This means that when patients receive treatment they are being treated to the high standards set out by the dentistry regulatory body, the General Dental Council. The register ensures that all dental practitioners are signed up once they have qualified.
Chief Executive of the GDC, Duncan Rudkin, said: “’Patients can rest assured that we’re now regulating the entire dental team. Dental nurses and dental technicians – like all other registrants – are expected to always act in the best interests of patients.
“We’re currently working on plans to introduce revalidation for the dental team over the next few years. By demonstrating that they remain up to the standard expected of them over the course of their working lives, dental professionals will be able to enhance the trust of patients.”
Those that joined the register have also agreed to submit the returns of their five year-cycles of continual Professional Development as part of the dentistry shake-up.
The new regulation has given patients greater ease in that they are comforted with the reassurance of higher dental care standards and a professional dentistry experience.
