43% of Canadians ‘seek whiter teeth’

Over two-fifths of Canadians are enhancing their appearance by using some form of teeth whitening product, it has been revealed.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, a new Harlequin Romance Report has discovered which secrets people are keeping from their loved ones.

Along with teeth whitening, over half of respondents enhance their looks with hair dye and almost as many use sunbeds or fake-tan to achieve a more bronzed look, it found.

The Daily Telegraph reported that although traditionally criticised for poor dental hygiene, the UK is gradually catching up with its foreign counterparts.

"Britain used to be known for its terrible incisors," it stated. "In Mexico, bad teeth are called ‘dientes ingles’. But gradually we have caught up with America."

According to the newspaper, Brits spend around £360 million on cosmetic dentistry every year.

It claimed that there is an increasingly widening gap between UK dental habits with some people able to afford luxury treatment and others not having enough money to pay for even the most basic procedures.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18457114-ADNFCR
