Dundee-base dental firm 3D Diagnostic Imaging has sealed a lucrative deal with an Indian distribution company. The company’s best selling product, CarieScan, will now be marketed by Mumbai firm, Analytical and Medical Technologies (AMT).

The deal comes just a week after the company agreed a deal with Wisdom International Medical Science and Technology to sell the product in China; 3D already has distribution deals in Europe and North America.

The deal with AMT is potentially very lucrative, with 27,000 dentists expected to qualify from dental school each year; this figure is equal to the total number of dentists in the UK. AMT has nine regional offices and is part of a network of 28 dealers; the CarieScan will be used in 270 dental colleges across the sub-continent. AMT’s director, Anil Ramachandran, said that the potential for the CarieScan was vast, with Indian dentists keen to focus on preventative care and reducing the rates of decay in the country.

Graham Lay, chief executive of the 3D Diagnostic Imaging, said that the potential for growth and success in the Indian market was vast; he also said that negotiations with other distributors across the world were ongoing and suggested that further deals would be done in the near future. It is believed that discussions are underway to sell the device in Japan and South Korea.
