Two year old girl chokes to death during visit to the dentist
A girl of two years has choked to death during a visit to the dentist.
The girl attended an appointment at the dentist in Niiza in the Saitama Prefecture area of Japan yesterday; she was being treated for a broken tooth, which was caused by an accident at home.
During the appointment, the young girl started to choke on dental cotton, which the dentist had used to stem bleeding from the girl’s gum tissue. She was immediately transported to hospital but died in the early hours of Monday morning. The dentist who was treating the small girl said that she had made use of the cotton to reduce bleeding.
Police have now opened an investigation into the incident and will study the results of an autopsy, which is set to be carried out in the near future; the results will help them to determine the cause of death and identify whether professional negligence was involved.
