Twelve thousand NHS dental places have been made available after two new surgeries opened in Cumbria.

Today, Oasis Dental will open a new surgery in Keswick, which will provide care for 5,000 NHS patients and another new surgery will open in Carlisle tomorrow, creating a further 7,000 places.

Local MP John Stevenson will open the new surgery in Carlisle, which is located in Exchange House on Cecil Street.

The opening of the two new surgeries is part of a huge investment by the NHS to provide more than 20,000 NHS places across the county. The investment will be used to open more new surgeries in the coming years to provide better access to local dental services for Cumbrian people.

David Tyson, lead commissioner for dentistry and oral health at NHS Cumbria, said the investment is oral healthcare was extremely important. Tyson said the health department recognised the importance of good oral health and claimed that the trust would continue to invest in services across the region. The new practices will provide 12,000 NHS places and more new surgeries are set to open over the coming years.

Justin Ash, from Oasis Dental Care, said the company would be working closely with NHS Cumbria to provide the best possible standards of care for local residents.
