Implant quiery: Antibiotics
Hi All,
I’m thinking of having an implant to fill in a missing teeth of 5 years, After a number of phone calls, I've had a consultation at a cost of £100 upfront.
The outcome:
Dentist qualifications: BDS, PHD, DGDP (uk)
He claims he’s done over 1000 implants over 13 years.
He showed me cases on the process.
Age: late 50s
Look and feel of the surgery 70% out of 100%
Products used:
- Uses Straumann implant system
- Crown, the inside gold covered with porcelain
He says before going for the implant they would send some antibiotics on the post to take a week before the implant takes place which worried me, is this safe common procedure?
Costs £1500 and he sounded honest and persuades you based on facts and didn’t sound he’s after the money.
Questions?
- Are the qualifications and the number of implants done enough to trust this dentist?
-Are the products sound? What are the top quality products?
- Is it safe to take those antibiotics before the surgery and are there side effect.
Any advice greatly appritiated.
Thank you in advance

Hi
1. If he has placed over 1000 implants, this would seem as if he has a certain level of experience.
2. Straumann is a good quality implant
3. Majority of cases, I prescribe antibiotics before the surgery. Each case is different.
Good luck!
