Worried about tooth infection
Q. My teeth are in really bad bad shape and i just found out that you can get really sick and poss even die if the infection gets bad enough. My question is this what can i do to get myself to get them fixed cause i am so afraid of the pain i will feel. that is the reason i havent been to the denist cause im afraid of the pain. i know they give you numbing shots and when that happens i have a bad anixety attack i feel like its just hopeless. do you have any patients like that?? and what can i do ??? i dont even want to smile anymore,
A. You need to find a dentist who treats nervous patients go and meet them and the dental team, you must find a practice with people you trust ask if you can speak to other nervous patients taht they have treated. at my practice we treat so many nervous people and I often find that the people have so many bad experiences, once you find someone you trust you will be fine. Treatment can also be carried out under sedation if needed to help you.
I had severe pain and the area above some teeth was swollen about 2 months ago which lasted a week or two and after that I only felt very little pain if i touched the area. I couldn’t visit the dentist at the time as i was very busy. I visited the dentist 1 month ago for a routine checkup the dentist said i had an infection in a tooth i had a filling in and this came about as there was some space and that bacteria has got into it. I had an x ray and took out the filling and created an opening in the tooth for infection to drain he said that he will give it a week or so to see if the infection has finished or he will take have to remove the tooth as it have damaged the bone around it or so. When i returned after a week i asked him to see if the infection has got less, without even looking at he said it wouldn’t have in a week and he needs to remove it. I did not allow him to remove the tooth and said i will give it more time to get better and he said ok but he wont put a filling on that tooth as it wont allow the infection any opening if he did that. He did not give me any medicine or anything for the infection. I don’t have any pain but if i touch on top of that area i feel very slight pain and the area is no longer swollen.
What shall i do, is there a way to get rid of the infection or will i have to have the tooth removed?
