Why does a crown have to put over my root canal treatment, why can’t my veneer stay there?

Q. I have just visited my dentist as i have had 3 seperate occassions, in the same tooth of an infection in the root of my front tooth, which has cosmetic veneers, and have been told i need root canal, and that my veneer will need to be removed approx 3 mths after the treatment, and i will need a crown in its place. I dont understand why a crown needs to be put there? and why the veneer cannot stay. Can you help please.,
A. It all depends on how much tooth is left after the root treatment is completed. If the tooth is very weekend such that it may break at gum level a crown may be the best final restoration
