Why do my lava porcelain crowns keep breaking when they are supposed to be strong?

Q. Can you please tell me why my lava porcelain crowns keep breaking after a year of having them fitted ? the slightest thing they crack ?? i had 3 front teeth changed and in my sleep one chipped and now i was biting a part of my nail as it was catching then the other cracked and chipped ? weak or what ? my dentist tells me its my fault and i should not eat hard things ???? At the £600 per tooth i paid i would expect them to be strong ?,
A. Lava crowns have a very strong substructure but has an overlay of feldspathic or pressed ceramic that can chip. Biting fingernails produces an incredibly high stress point on the porcelain and is not to be recommended. You may grind your teeth at night time and you may benefit from a night time guard

this is upsetting me beyond belief, i had 4 crowns fitted last year, within 2 weeks 2 broke and i was told it was my fault as i supposedly grind my teeth. i am quite happy to take the dentists prognosis but they always shatter in the same way straight down the middle and the tooth is still covered in the metal and so is the halves of the crown and these are never next to each other and wearing a guard at night makes no difference. so even that i have had only 4 crowns at this present time ive actually had 7 and the 8th is sitting in front of me .i know this may seem melodromatic but in the last year im scared to eat incase i hear that crack.if there is any advice , anything i should avoid ect because this is affecting my work, confidence ect. im now at the point im scared to eat certain food. i just want to be able to smile again and to go for my 6 monthly check up whithout spending 2 months in constant treatment for the same treatment .The worst part of this is i was compliant in this course of treatment as i was told not only would it fix any underlying problems but would also give an acceptable cosmetic result. i was told these would last for years when after the 2nd time of different teeth being chipped in very odd and splitting in half tonight the first crown i had just under a year ago and the only original crown that has not been replaced in the first couple of months, has as the rest split down the middle and is now sitting in a jar. i also am highly sceptical about teeth grinding due to the fact it only seems to affect 3/4 teeth plus none of my family have ever commented on this complaint even when told to point this out to me. any advice would be most appreicated as i feel this is not only making every treatment more fearful but the effect on my everyday life is becoming prohibative

I had implants (3) connected to a bridge for my upper teeth. One of the crowns broke a the gum line. My dentist is not in today and no emergency number when I called. What could cause this happen? Can the broken crown be replaced? This procedure was completed about three years ago.

Are you sure its the implant that has broken that would be very uncommon, see if your dentist is in today and get him to check it out, it could just need screwing back into place

Veneers would work well but you might need to wear a bite guard at night to protect your new veneers
