When I go for a scale and polish it really hurts, is there any way I can have this procedure without pain?

Q. Hi I am 55yrs old and my teeth have become more stained as the years have gone on.I go to my dentist regularly and he has given me a quick cursory polish which does not remove all the stains. Also I have very sensitive teeth and it can be quite painful when he uses the water and he gives up quickly. Is there anyway I can have this procedure without the pain Thank you,
A. You could ask to numbed up by injection prior to scaling. Also mention it to your dentist as there are desensitizers that they can use. Rob
