What is the difference between porcelain veneers and onlays?

Q.
Hi Dr Tennet,
I was just wondering what the difference was between porcelain veneers and porcelain onlays for front teeth, and whether there is an advantage in one over the other, or a difference in cost.
Cheers.
A.
Onlays usually have a meaning when describing a type of restorstion on the back teeth. I would normally consider the restoration of front teeth in terms of the origional condition and position of the tooth to decide on minimal intervention Veneers to greater tooth reduction (crowns)
