What do you think of the teethgap bands for closing a gap in your 2 front teeth?

Q. Dr. Moore, What do you think of the teethgap bands for closing a gap in your 2 front teeth? My teeth are very straight and except for the small gap in the 2 front teeth I am ver pleased with my teeth and smile. I have done some research online and it seems like most are very pleased with the results from the bands. The only negative feedback seems to be coming from professionals who have no interest in selling these bands and only offer more expensive alternatives like braces or invisalign. Just would like your honest opinion. Thank you,

A. Hi
I don’t have any personnal experience of these bands but they are an inexpensive way of closing down a slight gap. If the gap is wider it will just get moved to another tooth, however it could be worth giving it  atry for a few weeks to see how it goes.

These bands are very good if you have a slight gap as they close it very quickly and safely without the need for braces or cosmetic dentistry. However the only downside is if you don’t retain the teeth the gap will reopen and constantly using the bands to keep closing it can damage the roots so my recommendation would be to use the bands until the gap is closed, use a band to keep it closed each day for a month and then get an orthodontic retainer made called an Essix retainer which will hold the finished result in place. Any orthodontic practice can make you one on request and they cost around £150. Be sure to wear it a few times a week for life though as teeth shift with age and as you have purposely moved your teeth with the bands they will try to move back if you don’t retain them. Best of luck.
