What cosmetic treatment can fix my teeth that are small due to teeth grinding?

Q.
Hi, I Have a problem with teeth grinding. I have been to a dentist and have recieved preventative treatment, in the form of a mouthguard to sleep with, but am concerned that the damage has already been done and would like options on cosmetic dentistry for this problem. My teeth, in every other aspect are perfect, straight and white but as a result of grinding are quite small. Would this be a major cosmetic procedure?

Dear Enquirer,
You are right in the fact that the mouthguard that the dentist provided will halt any further damage. However, if your teeth are noticeably shorter than than normal then you will require some restorative work to replicate the original shape/form of your teeth. The treatment required will vary according to the type and extent of wear…wear patterns due to grinding can be quite different than wear patterns due to acid(fruit juice) erosion. You may be able to get away with very conservative treatment such as composite bonding, which is described on this site, or you may need porcelain veneers or crowns on several teeth. If the wear pattern is severe on upper and lower teeth, you may need a full mouth reconstruction with crowns on all of the upper and lower teeth. Please feel free to look at my gallery of smiles I have restored on the following link http://www.sparkledental.co.uk/short-teeth.php.
If you are in the London area, I would be more than happy to give you some accurate ideas on exactly the right treatment required.
I hope this helps,
Sunita
