what can be done with my jaw as it clicks

Q. Hi, I wanted to know what can be done with my jaw as it clicks and makes a loud clicking noise when I am chewing on food. Thanks

A. You can have your joint diagnosed if you go to a dentist that knows about occlusion. The click in your joint will be due to the disc knocking against the bone of the lower jaw when you open or close or both. It is normall caused by a discrepency in your bite. It could be due to avoidance of an interference when you bite together or chew. It could be due to grinding and muscle tension. There are a few ways to diagnose the problem depending on which school of occlusion the training of the dentist has been recieved from. You need to go to a dentist that is either Dawson, kois or LVI trained.
