The temporary crowns I was given and I am now worried the prospect of final restorations. Can you advise?

Q.
I discussed with my regular dentist about having my 15 year old crowns replaced, as I thought that they looked bulky and fake. She agreed, and said that she could improve on them. She took several photos and impressions and I went yesterday to have the temporary crowns fitted. They are hideous! They are longer than the original ones, they project more and there is a gap to one side which wasn’t as large before. She had to do some modification to the temporaries in order to achieve something I can live with until 2 Aug, however, I am extremely worried about the final outcome. What are my options if the final crowns are not to my liking? I am begininng to think I have made a big mistake trying to improve on my teeth. Many thanks for any advice you can give.

The temporaries are an opportunity for you to assess the final teeth if you are not happy you must tell your dentist befor ethe final ones are made, make sure you check the final crowns before they are permanently cemented. TALK TO YOUR DENTIST ASAP.

Dear Dr Riten
Thank you for your reply. I did communicate my thoughts to my dentist regarding the temporaries and she passed on the notes to the lab. Despite this the second set were still wrong, the colour did not match, they were actually wonky and my dentist did concede that they were not as she expected. I now have to wait for another 3 weeks whilst they are amended, and I am very concerned regarding the outcome. How long can this process continue, and do I really have to accept the crown if they are not right?

I suffered trauma in December 2012 which left my front tooth loose and the smaller tooth next to it was knocked out. I have since had root canal and a temporary crown on my front tooth, however it is a different length from the front tooth next to it and there is also still a small gap as the knocked out tooth used to protrude out slightly. Can the permanent crown be made slightly bigger and filed down to hide the unsightly gap and be the same length. Please help as I used to love my smile and find it very embaressing. Thank you

Yes the final crowns should be made to resemble the teeth before the trauma
