I hate my discoloured teeth, what can I do?

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013
Q.

Hello, at the age of four i tripped and shattered some of my milk teeth. The fall severely damaged and injured my gums. This led to my new teeth growing pitted and damaged. I am now twenty-one and my adult teeth are hideous. They are all pitted and stained and cause bouts of sensitivity. I have previously tried home stain removal kits, whitening kits and have also had temporary fillers put on them in the past and these just seem to chip off.
Am i able to get help in funding for veneers on eight teeth (four top, four bottom)?
I am currently a full-time student at university so cannot afford to pay for private dental work. I am also due to get married next year and just want to be able to smile.
Thank you

My Gums Are Diseased And A Tooth Is Loose, Can I Get Veneers?

Monday, March 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi iv recently been told i have the start of gum disease and one of my front teeth is loose i have had root canal but dont know what the cause is, as im only 22years old my looks are very important to me and im worried now that my tooth may fall out. This is causing issues with my confidence and is affecting what used to be a very good social life so i really wish to get it sorted, so rather than have a false tooth fitted I would like a front set of veneers as these seem like the best looking option So my questions are Would that be possible? how much would that cost me? Could i get any information on veneers etc/ And where would my nearest clinic be for consultation? Many thanks

Skiing accident caused damage to teeth. what would you recommend in terms of Lumineers/Veneers?

Friday, February 15th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes

I have just come back from Chamonix where I had a skiing accident involving trauma to my face, which included a lacerated lip and a broken front tooth. I work as a clinical pharmacist at The London Clinic on 20 Devonshire Place and I was wondering what you would recommend in terms of Lumineers/Veneers. I am extremely conscious about discolouration of the tooth. At present I have a composite in place but acknowledge this is a temporary measure for 6 months if not 3 months according to the NHS dentist as the root may die, but only time will tell. The dentist said the best thing to get was a lumineer – is this true? If i get one lumineer on the broken tooth does this mean I will need my whole upper set of teeth done also. I dont want to have to go through ridiculous expense but I am so paranoid now, I wont smile or open my mouth too much for fear of anyone seeing my teeth. I used to love my teeth after 2 and half long painful years of orthodontal treatment. Please could you advise me on what the best options are for me and the time frame from which I should proceed with getting a permanent tooth. I want to be confident in at least my smile. Its very important in the day job to converse with patients and I do not want the first thing they notice to be a bad tooth.

Kind Regards

Do I really need a crown? What are my other alternatives?

Monday, July 2nd, 2012
Q.

hi dr, i was just wondering if you could help me? i have a cosmetic filling on my front tooth. it has been broken since i was 10. the filling is now starting to get old and the change is starting to show. i am now 19 and when i asked my doctor to simply change it he said that it cannot be done and the only way to repair is by a crown. i’ve been highly discouraged for that solution because i don’t want to file my whole tooth for a small piece that would become more unstable than my current filling. is there any other solution you may recommend?

p.s. : I am thinking about taking up a boxing class, would it be safe if i used a mouth guard? Thank you for the help.
