My Front Teeth Are Weakening Slightly, Which Cosmetic Procedure Would Be Best?

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr.,

I’m thirty years old, and my two front teeth show some signs of wear and translucency at the bottom. I’d like to strengthen them and make them a few millimetres longer. This is because I am a little fearful of any negative risks to them in the future. I couldn’t stand it if one of them started to fall out or die! Obviously I understand that this is not really a dental health issue yet so I suppose you could call it an aesthetic issue.  If veneers are not the appropriate option for this, could you advise me what would best suit and what the estimated cost might be? It might be that they don’t really need too much work at all but I would like to know what approximations you could make.  I assume that any procedure would be done by a cosmetic dentist, and not through the NHS. I live in Cambridge, near one of the Oasys dental centres.

Sincerely, thank you.

My front teeth are becoming very thin, would Lumineers or cosmetic bonding be a good choice?

Friday, March 23rd, 2012
Q.

I am 31 years of age with a good set of teeth as I have no fillings.

However, the main problem I have is that my front two teeth are becoming very thin as my enamel has gradually reduced over time- so thin on one of my teeth that you can see through 2mm of it. I am becoming increasingly worried about chipping my front teeth whilst I eat, as they seem very weak.

I am interested in cosmetic surgery for the front two teeth. If anything I would like to strengthen and restore my natural teeth and therefore wonder whether Lumineers or cosmetic bonding would suit. Alternatively, you may know of something longer lasting and of more benefit to me.

I am situated in Lincolnshire and would like to know of a contact around the area rather than being directed to e.g. London.
Thank you

My upper and lower teeth are discoloured and transparent, what should I do?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

Hello.

I am 21 years old and my upper and lower incisors are half transparent. The bottom part of the teeth have minor (but obvious) ridges as well. Furthermore, my canines are starting to turn a yellowish color whereas my incisors are still moderately white. I was wondering whether I should get my teeth whitened so that my teeth atleast have the same color.

Would you suggest that keeping in mind the transparency of my incisors?

Furthermore, how can I get rid of or fix the transparency? I don’t want my teeth to gradually erode!

Filling used on front cracked teeth looks translucent. What advice can you give?

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010
Q.

My 9 year old daughter fell yesterday and her front teeth took the force of the fall. The teeth are still there but she cracked both her front teeth. I rushed her to the emergency dentist and they have filled the teeth in. Last night when I was looking at them I could see where the crack was and the filling looked quiet translucent. What advice can you give?

Medication ruined my teeth. What veneers would be most effective?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

during my early teenage years i was put on what is believed to be the strongest medication for acne, Roaccutane. this worked a miracle but it was not without its side effects. A substantial amount of hair fell out, my skin cracked open, my joints needed cortizone injections as the joint fluid dried out, my cornea’s dried out similarly and now i need contact lenses but most importantly of all my teeth went almost transparent from calcium leeching. now my hair is fully restored, skin perfect but my teeth have been left to ruin. they are of near perfect alignment (one out due to a broken jaw) but several+ have had almalgum fillings, two crowns and rear teeth removed (surgeon said these have most blood supply and therefore more cacium deficency).
I am looking to get porcelain veneers over the top to improve their cosmetics, idealy implants but i could never raise that kind of funds.
Which type of veneer is best suited? i don’t eat many hard foods like nuts etc, t-total, don’t smoke or eat that much sugary foods but my teeth seem to get worse. Also are there any practises you can recommend in merseyside/northwest area?
Thankyou so much for taking this time to read this

PS. could there be a possibility of getting treatment through my doctor as the medication is known to have caused the damage?

I have never had any problems with dental hygiene and have never had any fillings but recently I have noticed that the top of my front teeth (top and bottom) are becoming rather transparent. I am extremely worried and don’t know what this means. What could it be?,

Is there any treatment that could remedy transparent front teeth and protect from further erosion?

Monday, October 11th, 2010
Q.
Hi, The bottoms of front teeth have gone transparent from acid erosion. I use acid erosion tooth paste and mouth wash everyday. But I am wondering if there are any cosmetic treatments that can cover up the transparent bits and make them look white and protect them from further erosion? Is there any coatings or anything that can be applied? Many thanks, ,
