Q.
Hi i have had root canal in one of my front teeth and it has become slightly grey,my dentist told me the only way to whiten it is to bleach it internally but theres no way i can afford it.is it possible to have a white filling in the front tooth instead and would this have a whitening effect?

Tongue thrust is causing my front teeth to separate

Thursday, November 12th, 2009
Q.
Hi There, I have a tongue thrust, and it is causing my two front teeth to separate in an upside down V. This is concerning to me because I wore braces for 4 years (about 7 years ago) and did speech therapy to re-train my tongue. I have a night guard that I wear although not regularly because it is uncomfortable, despite that it is in rest that the pushing occurs. Would veneers be a viable option to correct this cosmetically, while continuing to wear a guard at night?

I need to know if one of my teeth needs to be pulled out?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr. Patel, About 2 years ago I was getting a root canal and my tooth cracked and the tooth had to be pulled. It was the last tooth on the bottom. Now, the tooth above where the old tooth was is growing. The tooth that is growing is a crown. Should I have that tooth pulled? Should I have my regular dentist pull the tooth. Thank you.

My second root canal has gone horribly wrong

Monday, November 9th, 2009
Q.
I had a root canal done on a mandibular 2nd molar 5 days ago, was already being treated with antibiotic as a precaution. After the novacaine wore off I was in a great deal of pain. Took vicodin and antibiotic as prescribed, called the dentist the following morning. He switched my antibiotic to a stonger one and said he would see me next week. I was awake all night tat night again in pain, called his emergency number, now accompanied by swelling an an inability to eat due to pain. He returned my call suggesting that I make an appt after the wknd was over to come in to have the tooth extracted. I am 44 years old, female, in good health. This is my second root canal and experienced nothing like this with my last one. Even the exterior of my face is painful when touched. Any suggestions on what has gone wrong or what I should do?

Rebonding and teeth whitening was not done as expected

Monday, November 9th, 2009
Q.
I very recently attempted at a local dentists office to have my canine tooth (which had bonding on it) re-bonded. I wanted it to be a solid color and shaped appropriately without harming my gum. The dentist was highly unsuccessful. The bonding looks varigated (two colors) and was either too large (looked like a dog tooth) and now too small/short. Question: should it not be simple to mix a color to match the tooth and not be varigated? Also, I had one hour whitening done and it didn’t really whiten my teeth very well. It has been less than two weeks and what whitening occurred is going away quickly. I asked if I had enough enamel for the treatment (I am 51) and did not get a reply. Any suggestions on how to get my teeth very white and a my canine to match? I do take good care of my teeth, brush, floss, etc daily FYI. Thank you!

Infected front tooth is drilled and treatment is causing lot of pain

Friday, November 6th, 2009
Q.
I have been suffering wit a dead front tooth (top) for over a month. The dentist has drilled a hole in the back of the tooth, and initially left the tooth open in order for the bacteria to be killed off by the oxygen. This alleviated the pain initially. The tooth was then padded with soaked disinfectant on cotton wool. Following this after a week or so the tooth was repacked but left open. After the following week the tooth was packed with cotton wool and then sealed with a temporary filling. This felt ok for a while and then the pain was too great and so I removed the temporary filling and the padding and left the tooth open. This alleviated the pain once more. The tooth has now been packed again and sealed over with a temp filling and the pain at this point is quite bad with pain now at the gum and painful to pressure. Should I leave the filling in place or remove it and let the air in again? Is there a better method, this all seems a little ludicrous for this day and age!!!

Please help me in reshaping my teeth

Friday, November 6th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Moore I am Writing concerning a special case of cosmetic dentistry i am interested in. I am looking for a way of reshaping 8 of my teeth (the top and bottom canines and top and bottom lateral incisors). I wanted to consult you as to the feasibility of this, and secondly if it is a service you can provide as it is reshaping the teeth rather than trying to return them to a normal shape. The effect i am after is for the canines themselves to be slightly expended (approximately 1 or 2mm) and both them and the lateral incisors to be more pointed. The intent is to be a subtle effect and must be acceptable for still eating/chewing etc. I realize in itself this request is rather unusual, but i was hoping even if you yourself cannot provide this service you might be able to point me in the direction of those who could. On that note, if you can provide this service, how much would it cost? for all 8 teeth and which would be the best way of approaching this? I would greatly appreciate any help your expertise could lend to this matter.
