Can there be a retainer attached with a mouth guard?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
Q.
Go slight Dr. kailesh Solanki, I am going to have Porcelain Veneer’s, not Composite put on. I have several question: I am going to have 2 front veneers applied. At this time I have temporary Veneers. I would like to know why are my temporary 2 front teeth getting black by the gum line traveling inside of the veneers? It really looks like mildew (Grosse)! No there was no dry blood. I am very faithfully at rinsing with salt water daily. This is the 3rd time this has happened to me. (3rd time is a charm) from what I hear? Ha Ha!! The first time it happened my dentist repaired them. I ask her to redo them. She said the veneers look to good to redo? The 3rd time I demanded her to redo them. All this happened with 2 weeks. (2). Doctor are my permit veneers going to have the same shape and length of my temporary ones? I do not really like the shape of the teeth now but can live with them for couple of weeks. I really expect my veneers to be even from the gum line along with a perfect pair of shape teeth? (3rd). At this time I wear retainers. I can only wear my bottom ones not my top? Will my top teeth move? I grind my teeth at night. Is there such a thing as retainers attached with a mouth guard so I can not bite down on my teeth /Veneers? If there is can you please give me the name of the retainers /mouth guard along with the Web site to see some examples (Pictures) please? If all possible please respond at your earliest.. Thank You For Your Help.

I hv holes on my teeth after removing braces Plz advice

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I would be very grateful if you could advise me. I am 47 years old. Two weeks ago I had the braces removed from my teeth after wearing them for 15 months. I had overcrowding on my bottom teeth and I felt that my teeth protruded on my top teeth. That was my reason for seeking treatment. One of the first things I noticed was that very soon after having the brace fitted my teeth became quite discoloured, yellowish in appearance. I consoled myself that I could have them whitened when the brace came off but was still worried. I told the orthodontist my concerns and he said that he had noted that my teeth were quite yellowish before he put the brace on but I am sure that the colour changed almost straight away. In particular around the gums about a third of the way up my teeth was quite yellow which I had not noticed before. I decided to wait until the brace came off to see if I could get them whitened. Two weeks ago the brace was removed and the bonded retainer applied straight away. He then cleaned my teeth very rigiously for quite some time. When I looked in the mirror in the surgery I was dismayed at the colour. Very yellow and matte without shine. He cleaned my teeth again with pumice and water spray. They looked better but without shine or vitality. Even now two weeks later the shine has not come back properly and the colour is not right. Also to my horror there were little holes at the top of my teeth where they meet the gums. The holes are each side of the tooth next to my two front teeth on each side of my mouth. Altogether I can see three holes on my top row of teeth. This is also evident on my bottom teeth but not so noticeable. The orthodontist didn’t mention this to me or let me know it had already happened. I cant remember seeing them in my mouth when the brace was in either. At the beginning of my treatment I remember him telling me that this can occur but he can correct it by shaving the sides of the teeth to make them closer together. I am so upset. I paid nearly £4500 for my treatment and didn’t expect them to look like this. I think the holes really age me and I am conscious of smiling broadly. This is a lot of money for me. I couldn’t say how disappointed I was to the orthodontist at the time when he first removed the brace as I was so shocked and I didn’t want to come over as criticizing his work. A few days ago I went back to the orthodontist to have an impression made of my mouth just in case the bonded retainer comes out (I think that was the reason for the impression). I mentioned my worry to the orthodontist about the holes but he only said that they may close on their own but unlikely. I am so disappointed. Surely he could have closed the holes during the treatment. I paid nearly £4500 and didn’t expect this to happen. Is it too late for me now. Kind regards

I m considering mini dental implants for my upper plate Plz advice

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Q.
Good afternoon. I am a 46 year old female and am having trouble adjusting to my upper denture. I have had a full upper denture for approximately 2 1/2 years. My original dentist removed my remaining 6 front teeth, and made my denture. After 6 months, he made another upper due to the shrinkage of my gums. The first set did not fit well, even with adjustments, so I ended up gluing them in until he made my second plate. The second plate did not fit well or look good at all. After repeated fittings and adjustments, I kept both upper plates and returned to wearing the original plate made. About 1 year after these plates were made, I went to affordable dentures and had a new upper plate made which was much better appearance wise, and fit alot better than the others. This has been a litter over a year ago, and I wore them for about 4 months before I started having to use adhesive to hold them in. I am considering mini dental implants for my upper plate as I have to use the adhevise several times a day to keep my teeth tight. I have spent what I consider a considerable sum over the years (approximately $3,800.00) for this work. How many posts would be required to hold an upper plate in position and would the implants do what I need them to do? Thanks so much for your time.

I m 28 Should I need to wear braces for overbite Plz advice

Monday, October 12th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I am 28 years old. I took my braces off 10 years ago after wearing them for 2.5 years (I also had 4 extractions 2 at the top, 2 at the bottom on the sides of my mouth). I wore my retainers for the first 2 years, and kinda just stopped wearing them after that. 10 years later…I feel I have an overbite. Please note, my teeth are very straight and I still get compliments all the time on my teeth. However, I am concerned. I went to see two orthodontists; one said i will need braces for 18 months, another said I don’t need braces, just a bite adjustment and a retainer. What should I do? I still feel I need braces for the overbite, but I feel the ortho is exaggerating the length of time in order to make money off of me. Please advise on what I should do? Also, if I have to wear braces, what is the average amount of time i would have to wear braces granted I’ve worn them before? Please help. Thanks!!

What would be the treatment for having invisible braces?

Monday, October 12th, 2009
Q.
Hi dr rob…. I am now 27 and had a number of removable braces from the age of 14-16 than a fixed brace from 16 till I was nearly 19. I was really happy with the results, but shortly after having this removed my bottom teeth all crossed over again. I did visit my orthodontist about this but told ne at the time all they could do would be to file each tooth down then put a fixed brace on again. I was concerned about the health of my teeth filing them so did not go ahead. Since I have remained unhappy with my teeth but thought there was nothing that could be done, until I heard recently about invisable braces. I would like to look into this but feel that as the job wasn’t done properly in the first place that to pay for this now would be unfair. My top teeth have now also moved since I have a wisdom tooth coming through, and now I am feeling unhappy with these also. I was also told I would never get any wisdom teeth!! What would be your suggestion for how I go treatment from here?? Kind regards

Monday, October 12th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I’m four days into an Inman Aligner (upper only) and I’ve been told that I will need a retainer once the treatment is complete. How long will the retainer need to be worn? I’ve read somewhere that the it will need to be used for life. Many thanks.

My mandibular canine is shifting a bit can you advice on it?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr. Patel, I have a permanent retainer on my mandibular incisors for about 6 months now. Past 2 weeks I am noticing that my left mandibular canine is shifting a bit when my tongue puts slight pressure on it. This canine is the last tooth the retainer is attached to… I am worried about why this canine is not stable as my other teeth, and why is feels so loose. I am definelty not looking forward to letting my canine fall out… Like I said, you can’t see the canine moving, but I can feel it going back and forth… Is this something I should get checked right away? I am a dental hygiene student age 19

Can a spring retainers fix a small gap in my front teeth

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I had braces about 5 years ago and have recently started to notice some movement. A small gap (0.5mm- 1mm) has developed between the front upper two teeth. All other teeth are fine. Could this gap be closed and then maintained by getting a retainer made? i have heard a spring retainer can be used without the need for fixed braces? what would the cost be for this? Many thanks
