Q.
I am 32 years old and wore braces as a teenager. 6 years ago I started wearing a retainer for awhile but now my teeth has moved forward. Can I wear the same retainer?

Can I depend on retainers without having braces again to move teeth?

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Q.
I had my braces off a few years ago and i wear my retainers everyday. I now notice that one of my tooth is moving forward and im freaking out about it. my ortho tried stripping the canine teeth a bit but i don’t see an improvement. Can i wear the T4K (trainers for kids) to make it go back to its original position? Is there a way for my tooth to go back without having braces again? Can the retainers do something about it?

I have decided on Invisible braces but would this work for my lifestyle?

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am contemplating invisible braces but I think I have a few problems and I am trying to figure out the best way of doing this. I will be leaving for the Caribbean for 6-12 month contract (in about 3 months time). If I get the invisible braces put on in this country what do I do about the follow up sessions with the dentist? I work as a Divemaster and I will be diving every day, will this affect my braces in any way? I have considered veneers but I do prefer the braces option.

Can I send my dental photos for you to suggest a treatment?

Q.
Hi there – I am 50 and have a crown on one of my front “eye” teeth. It’s 25 years old. My front teeth overproject. My dentist has told me it would be unethical for him to replace my crown without doing about £10,000 of orthodontal work first. I have the detailed photos he took and could send them to you. I would like to improve the appearance of my teeth but am reluctant to do so much to them and in some ways my overbite is beneficial I think to my face shape. I would like a second opinion but if from the sight of the photos I am a hopeless case then I will just keep what I have!

Q.
When i was 17 years of age, i required braces and the dentist told me i would be contacted in 3-4 months, she was polish and i dont think she new the procedures well, i was busy for a-level revision so couldnt make any dentist appoinments. now im 18 nearly 19 and i require braces as my teeth are out of line which unables me to chew my food properly(my front teeth dont connect), also my wisdom teeth burrow into my check causing cuts in my cheek, i was wondering if this procedure will cost me and if so how much, also if i should be entitles to free care from the nhs as the case is more than just wanting nice teeth.

Will my daughter have the same milk teeth problem that I had?

Friday, December 4th, 2009
Q.
My daughter is going six yrs old this Dec. 24, 2009 but one permanent teeth is erupting about 2mm behind the lower incisor. My dentist says that the milk tooth infront of the permanent tooth will just fall-off but 3months passed and still the milk teeth is there. My 34yr old wife has a lower teeth formation which is on top of the other incisors and hopefully my daughter will not follow. Please tell me if I need to let her milk tooth be removed so that the permanent one will have its place. On the other hand, will this removal cause side-effects and what are those? I need your advice.

Hi im 18 and a full time student at college. I need braces on my top teeth they stick out so much I can fit my thumb in the gap between them and my bottom teeth and poke out between my lips. Do you think I would get fixed braces on the NHS or I would have to pay? If I had to pay around how much isit for a top brace? Thanks

My little daughter age causing her not to have dental treatment.

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009
Q.
My daughter has just turned 10 yrs old. She was referred to the orthodontist a year ago. She had her 1st appointment in June and was told to stop sucking her thumb. Her upper jaw has a severe overbite. She finally accepted after much nagging by me to stop and she stopped that day 6 mths ago. She had her 2nd appointment today, I was really hoping a treatment plan would be offered. The orthodontist measured her overbite today at 10 mm so it is a big worry for me as it is affecting her looks, otherwise she is a pretty little girl and this is spoiling her lovely face. He said nearly all her adult teeth are through apart from a few, she is mature in that regard beyond her years. however her dental hygeine needs to improve which I will work on with her. However he then said he would not see her again for another year and has not recommended any treatment at this stage although said I am welcome to seek a 2nd opinion. I am worried that the longer I leave this the worse it will become, the last 6 months has not improved her overbite, he was hoping to see an improvement since she stopped but there hasn’t been one, I think the damage has already been done. I think she needs treatment now such as a brace but I am wondering if as she is being treated on the NHS if the funding is not available at this time, nothing like that was mentioned? I am considering going private if this will help my daughter but I don’t want to do anything too soon if she is not ready? What would you advise I am very concerned as her front teeth protrude so much she can’t close her mouth properly. Thank you.
