Wil NHS fund my implant and braces treatment?

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Q.
Im a 21 year old male student, from the age of 12 i have had a crown on one of my top front teeth. Having had many problems from a young age with excesses operations performed by dental students within the london hospital (some leading to complications). Due to this when having my last crown fitted at hte age of 15 i asked to be sedated, when awake i was quickly rushed out with out seeing my smile.. my current crown it is out of line and cuts my mouth regularly when sleeping. It doesn’t meet my gums and leads my mouth to bleed, the back to the crown doesn’t touch my gums (to the point i can get my tong into the gap) my current dentist has confirmed i don’t have a gum infection, more the crown is causing the problems. i have been recommended to look for a implant and braces. Due to the complications and past problems with all past work being undertaken with the NHS i was wondering if there would be any way the NHS would partly fund the work.. also how long would the work take? and a average cost?,

I am scared of dentist but need dentures – can you advise?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010
Q.
I have recently been in touch with the Gentle Dental Office in Germany and had an initial consultation. I have been advised to have all of my top teeth removed and replaced with dentures and the majority of the bottom removed, leaving some to “anchor” the bottom dentures. I have been told that the “vertical” needs to be significantly increased as there is not enough space. Please could you explain what this means and how this can be achieved. Will I have to pay for this privately or can it be done on the NHS. I have not visited a dentist in 29 years because I suffer from dental phobia. I now want to contact a dentist in the Midlands area for a second opinion, but haven’t quite plucked up the courage. I need to get my problems sorted now and it is making my lie a misery. Please can you help? Thank you,

What is the cost and process to have a bridge fitted?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
Q.
I had a front tooth bridge fitted with one metal wing(because i have a gap) and it came out a few weeks ago. I had this done under the nhs because i was in college. I am now at work so i guess i have to pay for it being fixed. Will they have to send the tooth away to get the metal taken off so they can stick it back in? My main worry is how much is this going to cost? The fixture of my bridge? what is the process they will go through and how long will this take because my appointment is on the 5th feb and i want it completed and the bridge stuck back in my mouth by the end of the month because i am going on holiday. thanks for you help,

Can I get implants on the NHS?

Monday, February 8th, 2010
Q.
Dear Doctor Moore,I have been on incapacity benefit for sometime now due to several illnesses mainly diabetes related. One condition that I have is epilepsy which I have had for 34 years. One medication that I have been taking for this is phenytoin. This has caused my gums to shrink, and as a result I have now lost all of my teeth.I am now on my third set of dentures due to my gums constantly shrinking. Is it at all possible to have just a few screw in teeth on NHS,rather than having new dentures made on a regular basis,as the cost of new dentures are always needed has to be dearer in the long run.I just want to be able to eat some decent food instead of being in a viscous circle all the time. Please advise me what to do next.Thank you.,

Why can daughter not get crowns on NHS until she is 18?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010
Q.
My 17 year old daughter has been told she needs to have several crowns fitted, due to decay. However, her NHS dentist refuses to fit them until she is 18 or 19. Is there any reason they cannot be fitted now?,

Should I stay with NHS dentist for crown treatment or go private?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010
Q.
I am registered with an n.h.s. dentist who is practicing in a verymodern surgery. I am considering having my front crowns replaced (maybe 6) after about 20yrs. He has quoted me £400 each for Procera replacements which will obviously be private treatment. What I would like to ask is would I get better results if I went to a private dentist or is he just as qualified even though an n.h.s. dentist. Does being an n.h.s.dentist mean he’s not competent enough to be in private practice yet because I don’t want him practising on me. Thanks in anticipation of reply.,
