How much I would be looking at paying for a new bridge?

Friday, August 21st, 2009
Q.
Hello, can you tell me how much I would be looking at paying for a new bridge. I have one at the moment that has slipped and needs replacing. It is the 4 teeth at the front. My dentist told me about 6 months ago, if I wanted it replaced it would cost £700, but if it moved or started to slip it would cost £300. It has now started to slip and there is a large cap around my gum area. after seeing my dentis saturday, he told me it would now cost £800. I said to him that he said before that if it slipped it would cost £300, and he said the NHS has changed and it is classed as cosmetic unless I am in pain. But he did tell me that if it slipped and needed to be replaced it would only be £300, so I dont know what to believe, is he trying to get more money out of me. Any info would be great. thanks.

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
Hello my daughter has been to see a orthodontics and he has advised us that see would be better getting the damon braces apposed to having nhs braces which my daughter would have to have teeth removed first. Do the damon braces give really good results and if so is there any way in which we can get them throw the nhs as we have been quoted £3,000

How much would it cost in NHS to fix the gap between my front teeth

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
I have just turned 28 and had metal braces followed by retainer in the form of metal on the rear of my front teeth.everyting worked perfect and my teeth are perfect apart from the front 2 teeth have moved apart again. not back to how they started but enough of a gap for me to now want a brace again. i am currently wit a private dentist but am about to apply to an nhs one. ow much will i have to pay approx if i am with an nhs dentist, but i dont think i qualify for not paying anything as i am over 18 and in work. But if i am wit an nhs dentist instead of private one will it be cheaper or the same as i dont qualify. not really sure how it works, thankyou in anticipation of your time and help.

My jaw is bit to forward can I get it fixed in NHS for free

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have a cannine tooth stuck up under the roof of my mouth, I was told this when I was 13 & needed fixed braces as my teeth were in very bad shape and over crowded, I wouldn’t go ahead with it as I was terrified of needles and the operation I had to have. Since then, I have been bullied my way out of comprehensive school and had to move schools, but the bullying still continued. I am now 19 and still get nasty remarks made about my teeth, which has destroyed my self esteem badly and even caused depression. So I decided to ask my dentist to refer me to the orthadontist at a hospital. I had xrays taken and he said that the tooth is still there and would need further xrays to see if the tooth that is stuck has done damage to roots of my front teeth and I would need a couple of teeth taken to make room for the cannine tooth that is stuck. And also wear fixed braces for two years. He also said that my jaw was a bit to foward. As I am 19, the braces I will have to pay for myself, but cannot afford them. The orthadontist at the hospital said as I needed alot of work done, I might be able to get them free of charge under the NHS, so I phoned the Local Health Board up, but I don’t think they really understood my problem. Now I am really unsure on what to do, and if I am covered for all of this under the NHS and how would I find out. Thankyou for your time 🙂

My teeth are crooked and I cant afford to pay privately what are my options now?

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi dr, i had fixed braces for 18months when i was 12 i wore the retainer as instructed and now im 26 they are back how they were. due to my age my dentist informed me i would not be eligable for nhs treatment for braces as i was over 18. i cant afford to pay privatly , my front 2 cross over slightly but its the next 2 cross over front 2 and one sticks right out of my lips when i close my mouth. the rest arent very straight but it just the front ones which bother me. i try not to smile if possible because of this and i want to know is there no way for me to get this through the nhs or can i get a home kit to do it myself i know you wouldnt reccommend for me to attempt it myself but it has got to that stage where i would. please help thanks x

Is it true that I can do only one crown in NHS per year

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Q.
Dear Rob, I have been to the dentist this morning and was told I needed 2 crowns, at a cost of £400 each (despite being NHS patient) After much talking she said I could have only 1 done on the NHS, and if I wanted a second one done it would have to be next year. Is this correct? She also said I have to see a hygienist before she will do any work…I thought that the money you pay for NHS treatment covers a clean & polish but she has doen nothing like that! Can you please just clear this up for me as I think she is just trying to make me spend as much as possible! Thanks for your help!
