I m 19 Can I get braces for free under the NHS scheme

Monday, October 12th, 2009
Q.
I was referred to an orthodontist when i was 14 to have braces fitted in. I had the braces fitted in but after a couple of days i had them removed as i did not feel comfortable wearing them. I am now 19 and in full-time education at university. Do you think i will still be able to get braces free under the NHS scheme?

Can there be any emergency treatment for terrible toothache in NHS?

Monday, October 12th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Justin Glaister! I am writing to you, as my husband is suffering from terrible toothache for the last 2 weeks. He took so many painkillers by now, and still no help. His tooth is aching almost every day, or every second day. We both know, he should go to a dentist urgently, but sadly we can’t afford those high prices. He is on the NHS waiting list, but it is ever so long. Is it true, if he goes to the hospital for emergency treatment, he gets it for free? We come from Hungary, and waiting to go home at the summer, and sort it out there. But this pain is getting unberable for both of us. Is any advise you could give him? Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you.

I’m really interested in getting my teeth straightened, have deneers and having my teeth whitened. Will I be able to get this treatment at my age and how much will it cost? Thanks.

Is it normal to get pain and aching or strange sensations after crown fitted

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009
Q.
I had a crown fitted a couple of years ago on a bottom molar. I suffered a lot of pain shortly after it was fitted and at an emergency appointment with a dentist it was necesary for a hole to be put in crown to relieve pressure caused by bleeding. The hole was of course filled afterwards. The crown is still sensitive from time to time – I get pain or aching or strange sensations which lasts for a few days and then it settles. Is this normal and if not what is the likely cause?

Would it be possible for me to get veneers on the NHS?

Monday, October 5th, 2009
Q.
Would it be possible for me to get veneers on the NHS? my mother receives tax exemptions so she gets completely free work. I am a model and so my smile needs to be perfect. My problem is that over time my top teeth and bottom teeth have always ground together and so now all of them are misshaped around the edges with many chips and slightly discoloured. How many would be needed to cover a usual smile?
