Could you plz give some details for resin composite crown?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Dr. Glaister: Dentist said I had a vertical crack in my lower left molar (tooth number 18) in the back of the tooth. It doesn’t hurt although sometimes I feel sensitivity when I chew. He said I should have a crown. I heard the cheapest crown is a resin composite. What is the life expectancy of that kind of crown and can it be done quickly in one visit? Is it different than a metal or porcelain crown inthat they don’t have to grind your teeth?

How long I hv to wait to replace crowns/veneers?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Q.
I’ve recently had a wisdom tooth and molar next to it extracted. I am eager to proceed with treatment to replace a number of crowns/veneers and would like to know how long I should wait until I can have an impression done to get this work done. The extractions were difficult and I had to take two courses of penicillin but the site appears to be healing well? Thank you

What would be the reason for lock jaw pain Plz advice

Monday, October 12th, 2009
Q.
I was diagnosed with slight TMJ many years ago and it show up now and again with a lock jaw and difficulty when eating. I used to sleep with a guard on my upper teeth. Do you think it is worth having another guard made? Also do you think an old filling on the bottom molar teeth could be contributing to the lock jaw pain? I plan to be in London during the summer. Thank you very much

My orthodontist suggests to remove the premolars from my 12 year old Pls advice

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi, My 12 year old daughter is in the middle of her braces treatment. Her orthodontist noticed that she has 2 missing upper teeth (I think they are the premolars.) Now that her lower premolars are coming out, the orthodontist suggest that she has them removed. He said that number of teeth on her upper should be the same amount as her lower. I wonder if that’s true. Right now my daughter’s x-ray should that she has 2 bottom molars that have not come out yet but no sign for her other upper molars. She now has 10 teeth on the upper and 12 on her lower bridge. I’m worried that if I have the other 2 lower teeth removed she will not have enough teeth in the future! What is your opinion?

Is it possible to have dental implant in lower left molar area

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
Q.
Following some failed (and negligent) dental treatment i require an implant in the lower left second molar area. i’ve had some consultations with implant surgeons, some of whom have told me it’s not usually desireable to place implants in this area. i’m interested to know if you feel it is usually possible to place implants in this area? if so, how many have you personally placed? and what success rate do you have for placements in this lower second molar region? many thanks

Gum swollen and numbness problems after Molar filled

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009
Q.
I got my upper left Molar filled about two weeks ago it was a deep filling I was told almost to the nerve. Now I am having numbness on my left side tongue, all the outer parts of my cheek, and only half of my lips, and some of the outer skin surrounding my lips. This is all however on my left side only. My gum is a little swollen around the tooth but nothing very prominant. Will this go away or has there been trauma to the nerve? I have had it for about a week now. I also have Multiple Sclerosis and want to make sure it is not related to this since the pain came on a week later. Please help!! I do not have dental insurance so I don’t want waste a trip to the dentist if I don’t need to. This also has affected my taste of things.

Should I get my decayed molar teeth extracted now

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I am due to have my upper left molar extracted next month at the dental hospital under IV sedation. I was referred there by my dentist due to the tooth being too badly decayed underneath the filling to have root canal treatment on it. As it is causing me little or no pain at the moment I would like your advice as to whether I could wait until it does cause me pain and have it extracted then or would this just make things worse? Also, I am concerned about the gap it would leave behind and would like to know my options regarding this, as neither my dentist nor the dental hospital have discussed this with me. Thank You

What can be done to correctly fit an irreplaced crown?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009
Q.
I had a crown on a back molar which did not fit correctly and is in the process of being replaced. I have a dull ache in the tooth area to the rear of the tooth. It is not the throbbing of a regular root canal type pain. An endodontist could not see damage to the nerve or root other than the poorly fitting crown which is now gone and a temporary in place. I am getting intermittent pain but am concerned about getting a root canal as a previou s root canal on a bottom molar left permanent nerve damage. What do you suggest?
