Is its true that I need a retainer at night if I wear metal braces?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello. I am a 33 year old woman who would like to straighten 2 teeth at the top front of my mouth. From ages 13-18 I wore braces which sorted out most of my teeth but my orthodontist would not continue my treatment when I left school (even though I was going to university). I am still very self conscious about my smile, even at this age! I have longed for straight teeth, but having recently visited another orthodontist, she advised that i would need to wear metal braces for a year and would need a retainer at night for the rest of my life! This obviously put me off. Is this true?

Q.
I have recently had several extraction from the top and bottom. I have an overbite and looking into getting braces soon. Will the fact that I have several missing teeth be any problems with getting my overbite corrected?

Could you suggest some treatment for my teeth which are forward?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello I have a problem where my teeth from the k9s inwards are too far forward they are straight as the roots themselves are too advanced. I suspect I should have had braces as a child. The result is when my mouth is closed I look as if im wearing a gum sheild. I saw an orthodentist about 10 yrs ago who said he couldnt really make much difference. I wondered if techniques have moved on since and if you might be able to help?

Can two lower central incisors fit into a space enough for only one?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
Q.
I have a tooth gap caused by missing two lower central incisors. then my dentist discussed with me that the solution with the problem is to enlarge the gap more enough to fit a fixed bridge so he had to put braces on my teeth. its been 10 months now, and the gap’s size now is like enough for one central incisor. but he said its enough space to place already the fixed bridge. im wondering how could 2 lower central incisors fit onto a space enough for only one? can you help me, am i on the right track here? thanks…

Is using elastic bands normal treatment for an overbite?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
Q.
My daughter is 16 and has some mild crowding in the upper and lower arches, she also has a deep anterior bite and a slightly untidy posterior bite on the left side. She has been told that this can be corrected with Invisalign but she would also have to use elastic bands which would be anchored with small metal hooks – can you tell me is this normal treatment for an overbite with Invisalign? She is devastated that Invisalign won’t be so invisible after all. Your reply would be much appreciated.

Is there a possibility to shave the sides of canine Plz advice

Monday, October 19th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I’ve had surgery to expose both canines in my palette and a brace to move them forward, however the spaces aren’t large enough for them to move into the correct position. Both caninees sit in place, but behind the natural position. Is it possible to attach a false tooth (or a thick veneer?) to the front of each of the real canines rather than to have a bridge or brace? Or would it be a possibility to shave the sides of each canine and both adjacent teeth on each side to give the canines room to move forward without the removal of any upper molars and use of a brace to create space? Many thanks
