Is using elastic bands normal treatment for an overbite?

Q. My daughter is 16 and has some mild crowding in the upper and lower arches, she also has a deep anterior bite and a slightly untidy posterior bite on the left side. She has been told that this can be corrected with Invisalign but she would also have to use elastic bands which would be anchored with small metal hooks – can you tell me is this normal treatment for an overbite with Invisalign? She is devastated that Invisalign won’t be so invisible after all. Your reply would be much appreciated.

A. Extra elastics are sometimes necessary.  Although the brace will not be completely invisible it will certainly look far better than conventional braces
