Is swelling connected to tooth and antibiotics?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
I had an infection in my impacted wisdom tooth lower left side. I have been give antibiotics for 7 days which I finished 5 days ago. When I rub my gum with my finger it still has the same unpleasant smell as before albeit milder. I was told to use Corsodyl on it which I am doing. I am almost 60 years old, there is no pain, but……….before taking the antibiotics I developed a swelling under my arm, the doctor said it was my gland but didn’t seem too worried and said “keep an eye on it”. Whilst taking the antibiotics the swelling reduced in size to about a third, but now I think it is getting a little larger although hard to tell. Could this swelling be connected to the tooth? The swelling is on the opposite side.

Assessment of bite

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi i had new crowns fitted at the front , top and bottom, the right hand side below and the left hand side top. Everything was fine until i had the lefthand bottom done, i ended up with an infection but it cleared up i had a root canal and crowns went back on some of the crowns are also a bridge. From then on which is over 10 months ago i cannot eat anything on that side at all cannot even press down with my finger as it hurst too much. I went back to the dentist twice and one of the answers he gave me was my body could get use to the pain or use sensitive toothpast. I went to see another dentist about 3 weeks ago and he said my bite was wrong, i went back to my dentist today (different dentist as mine had left from that surgery) and he said they were a good job and one of my own teeth at the top may need filing down, never had any problems before crowns. My jaw has now started cracking on occasions but he said that sometimes happens. My tongue on the opposite side of this now has a white patch on it where my tooth is catching on it due to being only able to eat all the time on that side. So what do you think should be my next step i have never been pain free since i had these done. Thanking you.

Is care required for teeth to avoid gum diseases after 40’s?

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009
Q.
I was told by my orthodontist that if I don’t take action with my teeth soon I could wake up one morning when I’m in my 40’s with my teeth laying on my pillow. Is that something that has really been known to happen?

Is dentures a best option for my sensitive teeth

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009
Q.
I have gum disease and tomorrow I am having yet another tooth taken out from the top this will only leave 7 teeth, no back teeth. It is difficult to eat meat now and I cannot bear my teeth to be cleaned as they are so sensitive. I feel my only option now is to have the 7 teeth removed and wear a top denture. I do have a phobia about the Dentist and at 50 now it will never improve. My Dentist has now realised that I cannot put up with the pain of them being cleaned and would need each tooth to be numbed. Do you think my best option is to go for a top denture?

Is there a way of preventing receding gums other than brushing and flossing

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello! I am 21 years old and I recently had two root canals done on my lower right side(molar and premolar), but due to insurance issues I am waiting until January to get crowns for them. I have realized that my molars on the left side(both top and bottom) look a little worn down on the lingual and buccal side. I believe my dentist has shaved the cusps of the two root canal-ed teeth and this might have messed up my bite(I can’t really feel it while chewing though). I wanted to know if this could be the actual case. I’m worried that my other teeth are going to get really ugly by the time I can get crowns. Also I have realized that teeth with crowns tend to have receding gums. Is there a way to prevent that other than the regular brushing and flossing? Thank you

My teeth whitening kit has completely receeded my gums Is this normal?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Q.
I recently used a home teeth whitening kit that apparently is dental grade. I trimmed back the teeth trays to the gum line as recommended but after using it only 3 times (for a third of the recommended time), I was horrified to find my gums have receeded completely and noticable back, as though they have been burnt off. It does not hurt. Is this normal?! Will they grow back? Should I ever use the product again? Please help! I am very worried about this. Thank you very much.
