I have a really bad overbite is there any way to fix it using retainers instead of braces

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
Q.
I have a really bad overbite and I want to get it fixed without braces. When I went to an orthodontist before, they were going to remove 2 of my top teeth to help push them back faster and make more room in my mouth. Is there any way I could do that but use a retainer instead of braces?

can composite bonding be removed easily and will the underlying tooth look normal?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q.
I had a small 1mm gap in my upper two front teeth filled with composite bonding a year ago. The results are great, and it looks really natural. However, I have recently decided to investigate braces as I have come to the conclusion that i would like to straighten my teeth. With this in mind, i would like my dentist to remove the composite bonding, so that a brace can be used to close the gap permanently. First, can composite bonding be removed easily? My dentist did the filling so well, it seems impossible to tell which is tooth and which is bonding? So, is it possible to remove it? And will the underlying tooth look normal? Also, when the filling was done, the bonding was polished and i can see a less shiny surface on some of the surface of my teeth. I will ask the dentist to polish this after the gap is revealed again, but If some bonding remains, does this effect how well fixed brace brackets would stay on? Also, when the brackets are removed at the end of treatment, would the bonding have stained, is this permanent, or would polising after the brackets are removed get rid of it? Thank you for your time.

Hi, im 22 and iv always had terrible teeth. one of my main problems is that i have teeth above my front teeth sides, and my baby teeth are still there. i was 13 when i noticed they were appearing and i visited my dentist that told me to let them grow out, each time i went to have braces, i had different set backs resulting in having no action. i really dont know what to do and this is causing me to hide away. please advise.

my 11 year old has a very uneven and over crowded jaw will fixed appliance work better

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Q.
Hi My son is 11 years old and he has a very uneven and over crowded top jaw. Our orthodontist has suggested fixed appliances (NHS – about 12 months waiting list) but has also suggested a removable appliance prior to the fixed. This will cost £650.00. Is this necessary and will the fixed appliance work better/faster if we go with the removable one first. Thanks

what are the chances of teeth slipping back into their old position once the brace are removed?

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009
Q.
My top 4 & bottom 4 front teeth are just slightly wonky, they over lap a little, are a bit at an angle & are not centralised. I assume fixed braces are probably the best answer, I was wondering if it makes a difference to the effectiveness of the treatment if you had conventional braces on the outside of your teeth or ‘incognito’ braces where they are on the inside of your teeth. I’d rather have them as inconspicuous as possible, but my main priority is chosing something that will work best. Also what are the chances that once the brace is removed my teeth will just slip back into their old position? when I was young i had a brace to push a tooth forward but 10 years on its fallen back again & conseuently caused the other teeth in that row to go wonky too. thanks in advance for answering my Q
