My new crown feels too big for my mouth, can I have it filed back?

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011
Q.

I recently had porcelain to metal crown put on to cover an existing tooth that already had a large cavity. The tooth covered was an upper back tooth. The bite feels normal; however the outside out the crown feels like it protrudes from the rest of the teeth. My dentist said this is normal but I feel self conscious like I have a big tooth. Can the crown be filed or smoothed down so that it is flush with the rest of the teeth? Will filing down the outside of the tooth damage the crown?

I am not happy with the fit of my crown, what can I do?

hi there, feel a bit down as last week i had cerec crown fitted to lower molar. crown seems fine, however i found i couldn’t floss either side of tooth. I went back and my dentist filed between tooth and said it was sorted. Next day i found i could only floss one side, the other side the floss could only go down half way. My dentist couldn’t fit in an appointment so his colleague tried to get rid of some cement from side of crown and he has left me with a little gap that none of my other teeth have. Yes i can floss now, but the floss goes down the gap without really touching the sides. It feels odd and food is getting trapped in it. Is there some way the gap can be lessened?

My crown has been filed away and there is a gap between gum and tooth, is this normal?

Q.

My gold crown was filed down in the top centre of the tooth to make it fit better. The gold has been filed away leaving what looks like the cement or the filling (I had root canal). Is the crown still effective after its been filed (drilled) away like this please?

Also the crown does not meet the gum – ie i can feel a slight gap with my tongue. Is this normal?
